  1. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you TURN OFF all automatic updates on your laptops, regardless of operating system and close all programs operating in the background BEFORE ARRIVING AT THE TEST LOCATION THE MORNING OF THE BAR EXAM. If your laptop freezes during the exam and cannot be restarted in SofTest secure exam mode, you will be required to handwrite the exam. NO EXTRA TIME IS GIVEN DUE TO A COMPUTER FREEZE. The portions of the answer(s) you have typed are backed up and we will print the partial answers. The balance of the answers must be written. If your laptop freezes in the morning session, you must handwrite the balance of the exam, including the afternoon portion for accurate accountability of answers for scoring. Please note that Windows Creator may download overnight and begin installing during the exam, which will cause a computer freeze. You may wish to suspend automatic updates a day or two prior to the exam.
  2. FOR USERS OF MACBOOK PRO: These laptops are supported by the current version of the SofTest software and may be used for the TN Bar examination. TouchBar functions will be disabled by the software during the test.
  3. FOR USERS OF SURFACE LAPTOPS:  In order to use a Surface LAPTOP:
    1. You must change from the Windows S operating system to Windows 10 Pro for your device to be compatible with SofTest. Since SofTest is not an App available in the Windows Home Store, you must elect the Microsoft promotion that permits you to run non-Windows Home Store apps. To do so, select the Introductory Offer that runs until December 31, 2017, found here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/d/surface-laptop/90fc23dv6snz; see Tech Specs at the end of the page. If you do not upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, you will not be able to use your Surface laptop for the exam.
    2.  Pens compatible with the Surface Laptop Screen ARE NOT PERMITTED. If you are found with a Surface-compatible pen in the exam room, you will be EJECTED from the exam, your answers will not be graded, and you will have to answer to the Board regarding their failure to follow instructions, resulting in obtaining a test-taking advantage.
    3. If you are found in the exam room with a Surface product other than the Surface Laptop, you will be EJECTED from the exam, your answers will not be graded, and you will have to answer to the Board regarding their failure to follow instructions, resulting in obtaining a test-taking advantage.
